Need & Rational
Sight is priceless. Vision 2020 is the World Health Organization’s global initiative to eliminate all avoidable and reversible causes of blindness and visual impairment by 2020. A cataract is a common and important cause of visual impairment worldwide. Cataract cases are increasing in India as populations increase. White water occupied by the United Nations remains the main cause of blindness in low- and middle-income families. Cataracts that do not work are the most common cause of moderate and severe eye blindness. India has the largest number of blind people in the world and currently lives 19 million blind people in the country, 80% of whom live in rural areas and slums. Unfortunately, this number is increasing every day. The problem is acute in rural areas, especially in the elderly. Accumulation of patients with eye diseases, especially cataract is huge and growing. Unfortunately the government. Hospitals and eye surgeons in the region are not able to meet this challenge. The distance from remote and underdeveloped cities to hospitals prevents patients from receiving treatment. Special doctors and nursing homes are beyond the reach of the general public to afford financially. Most of the agencies working in this area are reluctant to reach rural populations and slums. Ignorance reigns that blindness is the effect of ageing and is irreversible. Also the poor and the elderly refer to fate and destiny when they become blind. Eye care services in the area, especially for cataract surgery, are inadequate and poor, while demand is very high. The gaps in eye care services are large, both in terms of quantity and quality of services provided. These factors require the need for cataract surgical services in the area that can reduce cataract cases and the burden of local authorities.
